A Tribute To The Men Who Cleared The Way

War Souvenirs

It has been said "to the victor go the spoils" and so it seems to be true as museums around the world are filled with souvenirs or "booty" of ancient wars.  Why should WWII have been any different?  Although the rules were different for the allied soldiers from various nations, souvenir hunting became a favorite passtime for many servicemen.  For many an airborne veteran, souvenir hunting started the minute their feet touched the ground in Normandy.  Some of the items showcased here were brought back by veterans of various units (airborne and others) and given to the webmaster, and some were acquired through a third party.  All the items showcased represent the types of things the airborne veteran would come across or seek out during his service.  All of these items came from the ETO where the 101st had served and are therefore of German origin.
