D-Day 65th Anniversary Celebrations & Book Signing Normandy France - June 2009
|
This was not a California Chapter event, but it was a very special trip and celebration for two of the chapter's key WWII veteran members and one associate member. On Tuesday, June 2nd 2009, these chapter members departed from Los Angeles International Airport on their way to England to begin a week and a half long journey celebrating the 65th anniversary of the D-Day invasion. In addition to the anniversary celebrations, the two veterans were guests of honor for a three day long signing event for the new book on the 3rd Battalion, 506th PIR from it's inception in 1942 to its actions in Normandy in 1944. The book is called "Tonight We Die As Men" and was written by Ian Gardner and Roger Day.
WWII veterans Bill Galbraith (I/506th & 3/HQ/506th) and Manny Barrios (I/506th) were escorted by associate member John Klein (the webmaster) for the trip. They were met by the authors Ian Gardner and Roger Day who were responsible for their visit and covered the accomodations and transportation. Other members of the group participating in the event were "The Forgotten Battalion" DVD producer John Sushams, Roger Day's family, and a few friends of Ian Gardner. The trip involved time in England and Normandy France.
